“When You Pray”: Reflections on the Lord’s Prayer

This prayer, given to us by Jesus and recorded in both the Gospels of Matthew & Luke, has been called the greatest gift Jesus gave us in the Bible. According to paragraph 2776 of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, it is the “quintessential prayer of the church.” It is the “summary of the whole gospel” according to Tertullian, one of the Fathers of the Church. Most of us have known it from childhood, and prayed it all our lives. Sadly, however, what is so familiar can become rote.

In this six-week course, we will delve into each line and thought of this prayer and hopefully bring it alive in a new way. Since meaningful prayer is a constant challenge to most of us, (do you ever feel like your prayer is going no higher than the ceiling?) this series is meant to stimulate our devotion, deepen our faith, and increase our intimacy with our Lord as we study the formula for prayer which he left for us to use.
